PROPERTY chiefs responsible for two derelict sites have pledged to work closely with the community as they look to draw up suitable proposals for their re-development.
Norwich based FW Properties has been appointed by Investec Bank to advise them on the former Whisstocks boatyard and Nunns Mill sites in Woodbridge.
Bosses have already been working closely with planning officers at Suffolk Coastal District Council and they are also hoping to hear from other interested parties including the Woodbridge Riverside Trust and the Woodbridge and Melton Riverside Action Group.
Julian Wells, one of the directors at FW Properties, said: “They are sensitive sites that have been derelict for quite some time. They are in desperate need of a face lift and redevelopment.
“However, we also realise that there are quite a few people in Woodbridge who have strong views about them and we want to make sure the right type of schemes get brought forward and that they match people’s ambitions. The aim is to develop two really exciting proposals for both sites that everyone will be pleased it.”
Mr Wells said they were hoping to create mixed use schemes for both sites, but said at this stage he was unable to elaborate further.
“The idea is to give both sites a new lease of life,” he continued. “We are keen to work with the local community and to listen to what people have to say.
“In the past there has been some confusion over what’s happening at the site, however now, hopefully, we can offer some real clarity. FW Properties will be running and co-ordinating the plans.”
The Woodbridge Riverside Trust has already said it would like to secure community ownership of the Whisstocks site and create an attraction that would celebrate the town’s maritime heritage. It’s idea has already received considerable backing in the town, with around 1,400 people signing up in support of the project.
